The distinctively styled GLE Coupe is available in two models, both equipped with 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive. The 4-door GLE Coupe combines a comfortable and accommodating interior with a sporty and practical, contoured and attractive exterior design. For 2019 Mercedes-Benz has revised the name of the GLE450 AMG to the AMG GLE43 Coupe. The AMG GLE43 has a 362-hp 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine matched with a 9-speed automatic transmission. The AMG GLE63 includes a 577-hp 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 engine together with a 7-speed AMG Speedshift automatic transmission. 4MATIC is standard on both vehicles. Extensively equipped the GLE Coupe includes DYNAMIC SELECT transmission, suspension and steering control, AIRMATIC suspension and ADS Plus variable damping. Numerous active safety systems such as Collision Prevention Assist Plus, BAS Plus, and Cross-Traffic Assist as well as 21-inch or 22-inch wheels are standard equipment. Special AMG bodystyling ,a panoramic roof, a LED Intelligent Light System, and MAGIC VISION CONTROL are also standard. Inside the GLE Coupe is fully equipped with the latest in Mercedes-Benz COMAND infotainment together with leather trim and aluminum and stainless steel accents. Some available options include DISTRONIC Plus with Steering Assist, Active Parking Assist with PARKTRONIC, and a Bang & Olufsen BeoSound sound system. The GLE Coupe is a carryover for the 2019 model year but the AMG GLE43 has been renamed.

Overview

In a world of boxy crossovers, the fastback GLE43 and GLE63 S are welcome peculiarities. These performance powerhouses have the muscle to match, too. The GLE coupe is based on the previous-generation Mercedes-Benz GLE-class; we expect GLE coupe models to migrate to the all-new platform soon.

Engines, Ride, and Handling

A 385-hp twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 powers the GLE43 and comes hooked up to a nine-speed automatic, while the GLE63 S gets a mighty 577-hp twin-turbo 5.5-liter V-8 with a seven-speed automatic. In our testing, the GLE63 S hit 60 mph in 3.9 seconds; the GLE43 managed a still-quick 5.3 seconds. All-wheel drive is standard on both models.

Interior and Technology

The GLE coupe's passenger space isn't compromised too much versus the normal squareback model's, although cargo space behind the second row suffers thanks to the dramatically sloped roofline. While the cabin isn't up to the same standards as more modern Mercedes-AMG vehicles, it still comes with plenty of luxuries including heated front seats, a power liftgate, dual-zone automatic climate control, a stitched faux-leather dashboard, and an 8.0-inch infotainment display with navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto capability. High-tech features such as automated emergency braking and lane-keeping assist help you keep the shiny side up; additional driver-assistance features are available as options, including adaptive cruise control and a self-parking feature.
